In August 1982 my girlfriend and I were
returning home to Stockton, CA from Sacramento, CA where she picked up her new
car. We left Sacramento about 10:30pm heading south on Interstate 5. About 25
miles south of Sacramento a young woman and a dog appeared walking across the
freeway. The woman was wearing a full length dress. The dog looked like a German
Shepherd breed. We could clearly tell what the images were but they did not look
human since we did not see any color associated with them. My girlfriend and I
were stunned. As we passed them she looked in her rearview mirror and said they
were gone. We thought for sure that they would be visible in the headlights of
the oncoming vehicles behind us. After that we were spooked. We found it bizarre
that a woman and a dog would walk across a busy freeway. When we got home, in
near hysterics, we related to my mom what we saw. Fortunately for us she
believed us.
An interesting addendum to my story occurred about a year later. I was talking
with a friend who sharing some of his experiences with his friend who worked as
a photographer for the local newspaper photographing traffic accidents on
Interstate 5. My friend told me that a lot a strange things happen at night on
the freeway. I asked him what kind of things go on. He said that there is a girl
and a dog who walk the freeway at night. I could not believe what I was hearing.
Once again I felt really spooked knowing that others had seen what we saw that
night. Years later after sharing this experience with a friend she told me that
a coworker had had the same experience. If there other who have seen this woman
and dog I would love to hear from them.
I have had a couple of other strange experiences but nothing compares to my
ghost sighting. I have been fascinated with ghosts since I was a young child.
Until that night in 1982 I had never seen any ghosts, nor have I seen any since.
However, any time there is a program on television about ghosts I watch. I can
never get information on the topic. I have had a couple of other strange
experiences as well that confirm my belief that there are paranormal forces,
benign and malevolent, that exist which cannot be explained.
