Shadow Girl
My
Fiance and I moved into our apartment in February of 2004 in Portland Oregon.
It is a one bedroom 1940's apartment, kind of small but cute.
Soon
after we moved in I noticed a shadowy figure that would walk up and down our
hallway from the bedroom to the living room, especially in the mornings when
only I would be up getting ready for work. At first I would think Erik (my
Fiance) was coming down the hall but when I would look I would see just a
figure disappearing into the wall.
I
thought maybe I was imagining things so I didn't say anything to Erik until
one day he told me about a strange occurrence he had. He told me about how he
was sitting on the couch in our living room with all the lights on working on
some homework and this weird shadow ball came out into the middle of the floor
and just sat there. (there wasn't anything to cast a shadow there) After a
few minutes it just faded into the carpet.
We
thought that maybe, perhaps, we had a ghost. After we started acknowledging
it, the shadow thing started coming around more and more. At first we called
it "Shadow" as we didn't know what it was but a psychic friend told me to just
verbally ask it for a name and see what happened, so we did. Our response was
that her name is Mathilda. She seems to be a little girl about ten years
old. We don't have any information on her other than that as there are no
records that we are able to obtain showing previous tenants.
We do
know that Mathilda is very fond of playing with our two cats, who also like to
play with her and will chase her up and down the hall. Mattie (as I call her)
is very shy and does not like the closet door being closed as she will
open it herself if I happen to close it.
We
still live in our apartment today (2006) and have had many more sightings of
Mathilda. She has become very much a part of the family, even to playing
jokes on me such as short sheeting the beds after I have just made them. I
wish we knew more about her and perhaps someday we will, but for now she is
always welcome in our home.
