More Manitoba Ghosts

In 1983, I was dating a girl from a rural town in Manitoba, called, Morris. She had friends who had lived in, and grown up in the same house that their parents had.  Anyway, there had been a handy man that had lived and worked on the farm; usually keeping to himself but always friendly with the kids.  He died when the boys were young, but soon afterwards, strange things started happening around the house.

These 'things' resembled many of the pranks that the handy man, Jake, had pulled on the boys when he was alive. So, the family figured it was just his spirit. Furniture would be moved, doors would open and close, and shoes would go missing, especially when it was time to dress and go out. So as the years passed, Jake would manifest himself, not only to the boys, but to whomever was present at the times he would be around. Regardless of knowing about Jake, the guests, usually friends of the two sons, since they had taken over the house, were always scared when Jake would pull his stunts. Jake would also give off a snicker when he succeeded in scaring everyone. Except the boys, of course, who had grown up with Jake around. One point, Jake would never harm anyone, only scare them.

Well, one day when one of the sons was entering the hallway that led to the back door, he encountered Jake's presence and quickly asked, "Jake were are you?". And for the first time, he heard the reply, "In the bottles." The house was full of tens of old bottles that the boys had pick up around the yard over the years, and they were sitting on top of the various shelves in the house. After this encounter, they boys moved all the bottles out to the shed, and from that moment on, the only time Jake's presence would be felt would be when someone was in the shed where the bottles were now stored...
