HARD TO EXPLAIN TALES  3

Untitled Tale

My father was gravely ill and in the hospital in the winter of 1983. We were told to expect the worst and to stay close to home where we could be reached. I was 15 at the time and was heartbroken at the prospects of my father's demise. It was the early morning of January 25, I awoke suddenly, and before I knew what was happening I was out of my bed into my mothers room where the phone was with my hand on the telephone. I then realized where I was and what I was doing and was looking at my mother with surprise and wonderment. She then said in a sleepy voice "What are you doing, the phone.................." she had meant to say - didn't ring. Then the phone did ring for the first time, she answered. It was the hospital telling us of my fathers passing. After my mother hung up, we looked at each other in astonishment and fear, I had my hand on the phone before it rang.

-April.
