HARD TO EXPLAIN TALES 23

The Ghost Before it Was One

When I was 6 I saw my first ghost.  My mom and I were driving from So. Calif. to Tucson AZ.  We were on the 10 I believe.  There were other cars around since the freeways in Calif always seem to be busy.  It was packed but we weren't alone.  I was looking at the cars as they went by and at the drivers. (This was back in the 60's)  This old black and white car pulled up beside us on my side of the car.  I looked over at the car and thought it looked out of place.  I couldn't tell what it was but it just looked wrong.

Then I looked at the driver.  I wished I hadn't.  (by the way the car stayed even with us the entire length of my experience)  I looked at the driver and he was staring at me with a smile that showed every tooth in his pale, ash white, bone skinny bloody face.  I just stared at him and he at me.  I couldn't seem to take my eyes away no matter how hard I tried.  It seemed like a long time but I guess it was only a few seconds and I turned my head towards my mom and asked her to look at the guy in the weird car next to us.  She looked over and smiled at me and said what's so weird about the car and why did I want her to look at the guy, what was wrong with him?  I was so scared but had to look back again because of what my mom said.  When I did I was looking at a red car with a little old man in it that was wearing a hat and my mom was passing him up.   I told her Oh nothing now and looked out the front window.

We had just got into the high desert of California and the traffic had thinned out considerably, when up ahead of us about a half mile or so, we noticed a dirt cloud being kicked up, and the traffic that was ahead of us started to slow down.  As we pulled up to the spot of the dirt cloud this is what we saw.  The cloud of dirt we saw was a one car roll over accident that had just happened.  There were already people stopped and at the car looking in on the driver.  We went slowly by it (because of the drivers in front of us being looky loos) The car was an old black and white car.  The same car I had seen about an hour earlier.  and the driver was laying half out of the side window on the pavement and was bloody.  I saw that much and turned away.

I know what you are all thinking, "well the driver just sped up and was driving ahead of you and that was that"  But when I looked out the front window after my mom asked me why she was looking at the guy, that car was not in front of us anywhere.  I looked for it.  I had only been turned away from that face and car for about 20 seconds.  He couldn't have drove that fast and far ahead of us in that length of time.

I have thought of that many times since then and I finally realized what was wrong with the car.  (Besides the driver)  It was see through. I could see the other cars and the side of the road through it.

Well there is my story and I guess I saw a ghost before it was one.

The story is true but it is up to you if you believe it or not.  I believe it because I saw it.
