It
Wants In!

Something In
The Woods)
Reflecting on things from the past, I remember something
that took place one night while I was on the phone with a friend. I have often
thought about this and wondered myself what it really was.
Sitting here talking to a friend, my wife popped her head
into the room and began telling me something. As most men do, I was only half
listening to her while carrying on the phone conversation. At the moment, I
didn't realize fully what she was telling me and I almost forgot to ask her
about it. Something stuck out in what she was saying that caught my attention. I
don't recall exactly what it was that had ensnared me, but I asked her about it
when I got off the phone. That is when I found out about a very wild event.
My wife is not the type to believe in Bigfoot, or any
other type of cryptid for that matter. Knowing that, it is very odd to me that
she would have anything to say about something of that nature. We live in
Western Kentucky, not far from the Land between the Lakes. Knowing some of the
strangeness in the area makes me leery at times, especially after what she told
me. What is more unnerving is that this event took place in the house which we
now reside. Here is what she told me as I stood there enthralled, looking for a
possible explanation for the event.
She had been divorced from her first husband for about two
years and was living here in the early eighties. One night she came home from
work like she always did, it was around nine at night. When she pulled into the
driveway she noticed the two guys who lived next door were out on their porch.
She knew both of them and had gone to school with them. She said hi and talked
to them for a minute before going inside. She came inside, went and took a
shower and then went to bed.
She related to me that she had been lying in bed for a bit
and began to hear a sound. She initially couldn't figure out what it was, she
didn't hear either of her two dogs moving around in the living room. Lying there
trying to figure out the sound, she realized what it was. The magnetic strip was
clicking on the bottom of the dog door. She listened and couldn't hear either
dog moving around inside the house.
All of a sudden there was a loud crashing sound. She
immediately got up to investigate. She ran to the entryway of the kitchen. The
dogs were growling and going crazy on the sofa where they had been sleeping. She
flipped on the kitchen light and to her amazement the side door to the house was
half open. Looking down at the dog door, she realized that there was something
caught in its' opening trying to get free. She told me that she could see black
fur and then she retreated to the bedroom to retrieve a handgun. She thought
that it was some kind of animal trying to get her two dogs.
She arrived back in the kitchen and there was no sign of
the "animal", but the door was now wide open. Turning on the side porch light,
she looked around for it, but there was no sign of it anywhere. She closed the
door and then went out onto the front porch to see if it was in the front yard.
Standing on the porch, looking around she noticed the two neighbors were still
outside. They came over and asked if she was ok and wanted to know what was
going on.
She told them that there was some kind of animal trying to
get in through the dog door and it had popped the door open, because it was
stuck. She then related to me that she got a very strange look from the two
neighbors as one of them said the word "animal". One of them said "We couldn't
tell who it was, but we saw them when they ran off". The other had a very
nervous look about him and told her that he would feel better if he came over
and stayed for a bit, in the event that they returned. He came over and stayed
for a while and then decided that it wasn't going to return, he went home.
After she related this event to me, I was totally amazed
when she told me that was the reason you have to presently slam the side door to
close it. I always wondered about that and never really thought to inquire. Was
this a normal animal trapped in the dog door? I don't think so, this is why. I
have removed a few small animals from the fenced in dog yard. Nothing larger
than an opossum or groundhog has ever been trapped in there. Animals of this
size don't possess the power needed to bust open a locked door. Comparing what
she saw and what the two neighbors saw leaves me with a great deal of question.
What was this thing that had tried to come through the dog door?
One thing is for sure, when I hear the dog door making
noise it really catches my attention.
