The Doctor's House
I currently
(2002) live in a large two story colonial home in Emporia, Kansas.
My boyfriend
and I have lived in the house for a year and some strange things have been going
on. We bought the house from a friend who told us that there were many rumors
the house was haunted. A doctor had practiced in the home when
it was built in 1913, and it
is rumored he ran over his son with their car in the driveway. I later found
out that his son was killed in a car accident that was his
dad's fault, but not in the driveway. The doctor and his wife didn't
have any more children and they both died in the home
in the mid 1960s, his wife dying on Halloween. People
say this Doctor was cruel in his practice - not using
as much anesthetic as needed for procedures - and his
wife was even crueler. There are also letters from the people who bought the
house from the doctor's brother after they had died saying they had gotten the
house with it's contents and the sons bloody clothing
from the day he died was still hanging in his closet,
his room untouched.
While we were
moving in, going around doing normal repair and
upgrade work, my boyfriend would lay down the hammer
or the pliers and leave the room; come back and they
would be gone. He would later find them in a drawer in the dining room or
kitchen; every time the same drawers, like a
mother was putting them away where they belonged.
Since
moving in I have this feeling that someone is watching me;
especially in the kitchen and on the staircase/hallway. The lights in the upper
hallway flicker on and off at their own will, along with the lights in the
kitchen. Our cat will stare at something as it progresses across the room like
she were watching someone walk through the room.
One time I was standing in the doorway to the kitchen talking to my boyfriend,
and our cat Willy was sitting on the floor between us looking at me
when she suddenly shifted her gaze to just behind me
above my shoulder. The small hairs on the back of my neck stood on end and I
moved out of the doorway. I come home from classes everyday at noontime and I
always hear people talking upstairs or in the dining room just quiet'y
enough so I can't make out what they are saying,
but loud enough to tell there are two people.
I always think my boyfriend is awake and watching TV upstairs but I get up there
and he's asleep and the TV isn't on. We spent
the weekend after Christmas at my parents house. Returning home on
Sunday we couldn't find Willy the cat. She'd
somehow been locked in the spare bedroom closet.
Not just shut in there,
but locked. The key for the closet door is in the desk in the den.
My boyfriend
said it was my overactive imagination and we haven't really discussed it with
anyone. Until recently. We had a birthday barbeque for a friend at work and
she invited her sister. Her sister freaked out when she got to the house saying
I didn't know this is where you lived and wouldn't go in the house,
saying she knew the people who had bought the house when the doctor died, and
she had stayed overnight with their children and the house was haunted.
People would talk to her in the bedroom
upstairs. Okay... now one person who is not in my
normal ring of friends has said they experienced the same thing. My boyfriend
was still skeptical and then... His friend Tony came over and we weren't home,
so he was going to leave a message on the back door. He told us later he walked
up the driveway and around the corner and saw a little
boy about 8 years old run up the back stairs and into the house. He checked the
back door and it was locked. He asked if I were babysitting and I wasn't even
in town. Two people have now seen our ghost.
Last week we
had our final garage sale of the season. While my boyfriend and I were watching
the garage sale, a lady we didn't know came up while
purchasing some items and asked us if we had seen the
ghosts. That there were three or four of them. I don't think they intend us
any harm - they are just here -
but it sure scares me badly sometimes. I don't like being home alone. It
really upsets my boyfriend when he gets home at 4 in the morning and all the
lights are on. I had some people come in and we blessed my bedroom and I feel
safe in there; there haven't been any sightings in my
room since.
Hopefully we can help these people find rest and the way home to God's plane in
heaven.
