I live in a little area in Washington State called Malott.
It's on the Colville Reservation, in one of it's HUD housing sites. Anyway, we heard
a rumour that our house was haunted; the people who used to live here told everyone it is,
and that's the reason why they wanted out. To be honest with you, this is a small
area, and life is played out here like the old telephone game. Whisper something in
somebody else's ear, and when it finally gets back to you, it's something totally blown
out of proportion. Get the idea?
The first night that my Mother and brother were here, my little
brother said something grabbed him in the hallway, and they could hear something that
sounded like laughter. A few days later, I arrived with the remaining items from our
other house. Everyone left to clean up the old place, and I was here alone.
Even though I felt a little uneasy and like I was being watched from the moment they left,
I passed it off to being in a new place, and living around very meddlesome people. I
heard a few noises here and there, but I passed them off as house settling noises.
After a while, we grew accustomed to the noises, but our two cats
were acting very weird since they arrived. They wouldn't go down the hallway at
first, but when they did, they would run like a couple of speed demons. They also
looked like they were trying to catch flies or something, even though nothing was ever
there. One night a friend came over to visit and stay the night. He woke up
scared as hell. He said he thought either me or my brother were playing a trick on
him in the middle of the night. He felt someone or some thing tickle his feet.
When he looked to see what it was that was doing this, nothing was there. He knocked
on my door and ended up staying awake for the rest of the night. I told him that
this place is supposed to be haunted, and he was pretty convinced of that. But at this
time, I still didn't think it was. Needless to say, my friend never stayed another
night here.
Then we all started hearing a rapping noise inside the walls, but
this would only happen if just one person was within earshot to hear it. The first
time this happened to me, I just turned up the TV to drown the sound out. That
doesn't work, it'll only get louder. Funny thing about this is, it'll stop is
someone else comes into the room.
Then one night when I was playing my Nintendo 64 while sitting on
my bed, I felt something get on the bed. Naturally I thought it was one of the cats,
so I reached over to give it a quick petting because it was moving towards me. To my
surprise, nothing but cold air was there. I first thought, "Okay, where did the
cat go to?" Then, as I looked around the bed, I could see the imprints of
someone walking on the bed, but I couldn't see what was doing it. I said, "****
this," and turned off the Nintendo 64, the TV, and the light, and closed the door.
I didn't go back into my room that night. I was finally convinced that our
house was haunted after that.
My sister told my mother that something had pinned her down to her
bed, just holding her. She couldn't move at all, and was pretty shook up from
that. My brother had a salt shaker thrown at him. None of us could have done
it, because we were all watching TV in the living room when this happened. One
night, I was in the living room and I wanted to record a movie, but it was on at about
3:30 in the morning, and I fell asleep on the couch before the movie started. I woke
up and saw a small child changing the channels. My first thought was that I was
going to kill my little brother. But after I got a really good look at him, I
noticed that wasn't my brother. I was frozen with fear, because I thought someone
had gotten into the house. I slowly got up and the child was still changing
channels. I asked, "Who are you?" The child turned and just make a
little laugh, and then disappeared before my eyes! I wasn't ready for that.
Let me tell you, it was the most messed up thing I've ever seen! After awhile the
channel changing thing got a little too old, with it always changing the channel of a
moment's notice. I finally yelled at it and said, "Look, you don't pay the
bills, so leave the TV alone!" (sounds kind of funny, I know) It stopped
changing the channels after that...
Then the other one decided to make his presence felt. You'll
see a shadow of a man every now and then, but never in full form, thank God, and hear him
talking, but he's not really making any sense. He sounds like he's mumbling or
something. I hear his footsteps going up and down the hallway, and I'll kindly ask
if he'll stop it. Eventually he does, and I won't hear from him until later on in
the week. We all feel the cold drafts going through here, and hear the noises that
they make from time to time. The cats don't really know what to do, and we don't as
well.
One of them is someone named Willy, who died here in the house in
1986. The last thing that Willy has done is, he came into my room and said the name
Sara three times in my ear. Trust me, it's not a good way to wake up. I asked
Willy to leave me alone. As for the child, we don't know who he is...but we figure
he must be attracted to the house, since Willy is here.
We've lived here not for close to three years, and we're NOT
giving up the house. We just have to deal with two spirits, and they're not that
bad. They catch you off guard, but it's not that bad. You just have to be
willing to adjust to them.
NOTE: I asked for some more information, and
the author sent the following:
I still live in the same house, have
for close to three years now. And it started as soon as we moved in
here. We had the house remodeled after a year, and it seemed to calm
things down for a while, but that didn't last too long. My uncle, who
practices the old traditional Indian medicine tried a form of exorcism.
That didn't really stop them. Asking them to leave and calling out for a
loved one also doesn't seem to work; I guess they're here to stay. but
they aren't as bad as most people think, and learning to adjust to them is all
one can really do. They are active from time to to time, but it's only
little things that they do.
