This
happened to me back in June of 1986, with my boyfriend at the time. I was
living in Spokane, Washington.
We used to
all party at this place by the Spokane River. Not too far from there is a
place known as "One Thousand steps." People have different stories about that
area; some say it was a place for devil worshippers, or that a person would
not be able to make it to the top of the steps which lead into a graveyard
there. I never believed in any of these stories because there's way too many
different ones about the place.
One Friday
night, a bunch of us were partying down there, and my boyfriend Jeremy said,
"Hey, let's see if we can't make it up the 1000 steps." No one really wanted
to, because of the stories that were told about it. But, there was nothing
else to do, and soon enough we were on our way there. I started to feel like
I was being watched on all sides. I wasn't feeling comfortable there, and was
getting spooked really quickly.
A few others
started saying the same things, but Jeremy kept pushing us on, and we followed
like lost children. Then, Jeremy stopped all of a sudden, and we all saw
what he was looking at; three figures were walking towards us and they
appeared to look smoke like. It scared the heck out
of me and the others were just in as much shock as I was. The figures stopped
about 50 feet in front of us, and just stood there for what seemed like
forever.
I said to
Jeremy, "Gee, that's a nice trick, how did you pull this one off?" He was
known to pull pranks every now and then. He turned around and said, " I
didn't do this, and if I could, I'd be in Hollywood." He was trying to sound
calm, but you could tell he was just as scared as we were. The figures
suddenly disappeared. We all decided it was time to turn around and run like
hell. We got back to where our party spot was, and freaked out about the
whole thing. We never did make it close to the 1000 steps, sad to say.
As we
started to walk out of the riverbed, we all saw what appeared to be a pair of
red looking eyes. Jake said it was a cat, that was all. He had cats, and was
used to seeing them in the dark, and their eyes did that at times. So we
thought nothing of it until we came close to the eyes. They were close to the
ground at first, but then, as if a person were standing up, they rose
upwards. That was good enough for us to run like crazy out of that riverbed.
I can only speak for myself, but I didn't look back, and I didn't want to know
what that was. After we finally made it out of there, It was safe to say I
was never going back there again.
